The Brief

The Child Health Task Force project, in partnership with Sonder Collective, JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is supporting the Ministry of Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to understand what effective technical assistance (TA) looks like for all actors involved in setting up and running TA -donors, TA providers, governments, and beneficiaries - and to find ways to concretely improve the process of designing and implementing TA in the DRC. Re-imagining TA to improve the governance and capacity of the health system will ensure that MNCH services are delivered in an equitable manner and will bring down maternal, newborn, and under-five mortality.

The outcome

A series of principles to be respected by all parties are now being implemented in a country policy document that is aligned with the National Health Development Plan.

Today, these project's outputs, specifically the country roadmaps, design principles, new TA formats, and  interdisciplinary co-creation teams for each country, live in the health ministries, who are pushing for their political uptake, while the larger global report encouraged global players to take ownership of the project's takeaways through a round of co-creation sessions that would lead to both the socialization of the lessons learned and encourage new and alternative models of assisting Ministries of Health in their missions.
